Thatcham Craft Awards – Painter of the Year 2011.

Following a gruelling assessment day at the Thatcham Institute of Research and Training in June, and out of hundreds of entrants from all over the UK, Fran Barker, of Lloyd BMW in Colne, Lancashire, was announced 1st runner-up at the Thatcham Craft Awards Painter of the Year 2011.

This is the third year that Fran had been in the final, after winning in 2009 and finalist in 2008. He stated, “It is very important to both me and Lloyd Colne; not just for the business but for my own personal goals and achievements. It is the industry event of the year and is an extremely prestigious award.”

The Thatcham/Bodyshop Craft Awards is an intensely fought competition, as skilled technicians from the bodyshop industry compete to prove themselves the best in their field. Attended by the cream of the UK's bodyshop technicians, this was an opportunity for the technicians to show off their skills in a competitive environment.

The Craft Awards competitors were also being tested to ATA (Automotive Technician Accreditation) standards but despite the extra pressure all performed to an extremely high standard, demonstrating once again that the future of the UK crash repair industry is in safe hands.

The process required a huge amount of skill and, as a discipline, demands a thorough understanding of the latest technology and careful attention to detail. With customer satisfaction playing such a major role in the business, it is crucial that he and his colleagues demonstrate a clear dedication to the provision of top quality services.

Fran was enthusiastic about the competition and said “I went there again to demonstrate that I could do the job and that I am one of the best in the country. It was a benchmark and will reassure customers that Lloyd Colne are committed to quality and service.”
